JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.
Administrative duties may include but not limited to the following:
Answer telephones and greet patients
Schedule and reschedule appointments
Update and file patient medical records
Fill out school/ FMLA forms
Handle correspondence
Assist with hospital admissions
Arrange for laboratory services
Handle charge capture for billing purposes
Perform other administrative duties as directed
Clinic Duties may include but not limited to the following: Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including:
Taking medical histories and recording vital signs
Assist with obtaining prior authorizations
Assist patients with form completion.
Explaining treatment procedures to patients utilizing predetermined protocols
Preparing patients for examinations and procedures
Assisting the physician during the examination and procedures
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
Perform basic laboratory tests on the premises. Dispose of contaminated supplies
Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.
Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician and document in patient care record.
Tee up and forward prescription refills as directed. Telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy.
Perform finger/heel sticks.
Prepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures.
Change sterile and non-sterile dressings.
Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the nurse or physician.
Perform patient intake including: obtaining vital signs (including manual blood pressures), administering survey tools, data collection, education screens, assisting patients with ambulation/toileting, reviewing patient medications, assisting patients with preparing questions for
provider visit.
Completing procedural tasks including: administering vaccinations and medications according to protocols and provider orders, A1C, specimen collection and correct labeling, assisting with clinic-performed procedures (including skin testing, Nexplanon insertions/removals,
EKGs, place holter monitors), reviewing pre-printed material with patient/family, bill for nursing procedures.
Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Level II -- Must have at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
High school or GED graduation required.
Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
BLS required.
JOB HOURS The scheudle for this position is day shift Monday to Friday.
