Job Description:
POSITION TITLE: Assistant Service Line Medical Director for Hematology/Oncology
REPORTS TO: Service Line Medical Director (SLMD)
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Service Line Medical Director assists SLMD in the matters of:
a. Directly involved with ensuring adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards
b. Oversight of associate review process for service line physicians
c. Annual review of Advanced Practice Clinicians
d. Market share/specialty planning, including outreach
e. Budget and financial performance of service line (in conjunction with administration)
f. Medical standards, outcomes/quality, affordability & production for service line
g. Recruitment for service line specialties; optimize workflow, reduce duplication/internal competition
h. Mentoring /standards of conduct for all service line members
i. Defining and enforcing patient experience standards in conjunction with Patient Experience Medical Director
j. Identifying, developing and marketing new services/technologies within service line
k. Service line coverage/referrals/process standardization & improvement
l. Communication/implementation of service line initiatives
m. Consulting on specialty coding, reimbursement and salary assignments for service line
FOCUS: Service Line, Specialty, Specialty Medical Standards; May be system-wide, regional or sub-specialty focused based on the service line
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Assistant Service Line Medical Director assists SLMD in the matters of:
1. Citizenship
a. Address physician and advanced practice clinicians behavior/performance issues; enforce general standards of conduct within service line.
2. Market Share/Service Development
a. Assess/improve service line market share
b. System specialty planning, including outreach
c. Regular communication with referral network across system; work with regional specialty director(s) to address deficiencies
d. Identify new services/service expansion; determine specialty capital need/develop business plan; plan new technologies within specialties/service line
e. In conjunction with Marketing, find effective ways to promote service line
3. Financial Performance/Budget
a. Accountable for budget process (in conjunction with administration) and service line financial performance
b. Use understanding of service line costing, financial and staffing reports to manage practices
4. Operational Efficiency
a. Manage service line coverage issues across the system for physicians and advanced practice clinicians
b. Manage ease of referral issues; Actively manage and prevent referral leakage going out of Marshfield Clinic Health System
c. Lead and be a resource for service line process improvement projects: standardization of processes, improved outcomes, and cost reduction
5. Outcomes/Quality/Affordability
a. Manage service line coverage issues across the system for physicians and advanced practice clinicians
b. Manage ease of referral issues; Actively manage and prevent referral leakage going out of Marshfield Clinic Health System
c. Accountable for service line affordability
6. Patient Experience
a. Sets standard for patient experience; enforce standards within service line in conjunction with Patient Experience Medical Director
7. Communication/Team Building
a. Minimum quarterly or monthly system-wide service line meetings.
b. Attends leadership meetings as requested.
c. Communication of and implementation of service line specific initiatives to service line (affordability, outcomes, patient experience).
d. Participates in Associate Evaluation program with major focus on medical standards, outcomes, patient experience and production for service line providers.
e. Recruitment of specialists across the system, optimizing workflow and reducing duplication and internal competition.
f. Assists in onboarding of new associates in the department/region
g. Provide direction, coaching and feedback to service line members; serve as a mentor to service line department members
h. Support and promote professional development.
i. Conduct an annual review with each service line advanced practice clinician.
j. Helps guide interspecialty relationships.
8. Administrative
a. Oversight of associate review process for service line physicians
b. Collaborate with salary committee on salary assignments for service line providers
c. Directly involved with ensuring adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards such as FPPE and Credentialing needs and requirements for service line providers
d. Advance Practice Clinician chart reviews
e. Consult on specialty coding and reimbursement issues
f. Collaborate with Department of Education regarding training for providers within the service line
9. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
10. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).
Preferred/Optional: MBA or MHA
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Praciting physician for at least one year
Preferred/Optional: One or more years' experience with leadership role(s) preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required:
Board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Medical Specialties (AOBMS)
Current and unrestricted WI MD/DO license
