The Department of Pathology faculty and trainees provide care in concert with multiple clinical partners, including Regional One Health, Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr VA Medical Center and University Clinical Health as well as The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center. The department embraces a tripartite role in clinical service, research and education. The outstanding pathologists and doctoral level scientists who have been and will be recruited are expected to make contributions to all relevant missions as a pre-requisite to academic advancement.
The UTHSC College of Medicine is the state's largest with approximately 656 medical students and over 1100 residents and fellows in 84 GME training programs. Gross revenues for the College exceed $400M annually with greater than $70 million in research revenues. The College of Medicine has multiple faculty practice plans to support clinical care at sites across the Memphis metro area. In addition, the college benefits from close partnerships with major research institutions including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Reporting to the Executive Dean, the incoming Chair will support pathologists and doctoral scientists who specialize in particular clinical or research areas. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to grow the research portfolio of the department and partner closely with clinical partners to coordinate care across multiple sites.
