Occ Summary

The Clinical Lead RN is a role developed to wo rkin coordination withthe nursing leadership in an assigned unit or depa rtment to ensure thework is accomplished effectively. The Clinical Lead RNis the first linesupport for staff, physicians and other related provi ders on service-specific clinical issues. The Clinical Lead RN is genera lly a long-termrole, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills. The Cl inical Lead RNcollaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues(employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships ,etc.). The Clinical Lead RN is the support for theunit/department/servi ce when the manager is unavailable. The ClinicalTeam Leader is responsib le for supervising, directing, coaching andmentoring their assigned core group of staff.


Work Performed

Duties and responsibil ities include all those required of the CN III aswell as:Plan and coordi nate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that allCBO and CBE requ irements for staff are current.Plan and assist with coordination of unit staff schedules and submit formanager approval.Coordinate clinical requ irements with staff regarding equipment andsupplies.Consult with precept ors and orientees on a regular basis to providesupport and determine how orientation should proceed on an individualbasis.Collaborate with thema nager for issue resolutions and projects toimprove work flow processesth roughout the department utilizing aproactive approach.Collaborate with d ifferent departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab,registration) to resolve issues and improve work flow processesthroughout the department.Collabor ate with the nurse managers in the interview process for newapplicants.M entor/coach staff to enhance their professional development.Assessesthe performance of assigned new hires and orientees includingentry levelnurs es, nursing care assistants and health unitcoordinators; provides ongoin g feedback and coaching.Understand and communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issuesto appropriate team members (Materials, Biomed, Sterile Processing,etc).Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new em ployees.Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs toentire staffon a regular basis.Provides immediate support andeducationon poli cy, procedures,equipment and supplies.Responsible for learning, implemen ting and teaching newtechnology/procedures.Demonstrates awarenessof curr ent problems and basic plan for allpatients within assigned area.Provide sclinical consultation and guidance as needed to facilitatepatient care .Gives assistance and/or direction to staff to facilitate quality patien tflow.Assess staffing needs according to workload and staff competency; Re-assigns and adjusts staffing based upon patient care needs.Delegates responsibilities within the scope of practice and validatedcompetencies in order to meet the workload demands of the shift.Facilitates assignmen ts that support learning for the orientee or nurselearner.Promotes an at mosphere of open communication that facilitates staffinput intodecision- making, resolution of conflict, and collegialityamong all health team me mbers.Communicates in an effective, professional manner.Facilitates staf f performance audits related to attitude, teamperformance, TheJoint Comm ission, DFS Standards and SCIP initiatives.Reviews and comments on forwa rded SRSs related to their team or shift.Facilitates and encourages staf f participation in departmental andhospital committee and council meetin gs.Attends departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned.Coor dinates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projectswith follow-through and appropriate follow-up.Other projects and duties as d irected by the department managers.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. BCLS certification is required. Must obtain a nursing leadership certification within two years of hire of appointment.
