Overview: Under the supervision of a physician, provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients. This includes technical aspects of oral medication dispensing, record keeping and inventory control as well as helping with financial assistance. Additional skills training will be provided for IV admixture preparation of chemotherapy agents. Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Verifies patient demographics, insurance information and prescription information Processes prescription and bills insurance for payment Review and sign paperwork Troubleshoots Medicare part B verification requirements Submits prior authorizations Checks for drugs interactions Applies for financial assistance through cancer foundations and co-pay assistance for high dollar oral drugs Tracks and reports monthly inventory in retail computer Ensures that the most cost effective drugs are ordered from vendors label prescriptions and ensure they are check correctly by providers. Ensures prescriptions and paperwork are being signed off on by a provider Obtains patient's signature on all medications being dispensed File and store prescriptions File and maintain daily reports Documents all interactions with the patient in the EMR MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum three to five years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting. Prior IV admixture training is a plus. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended. COMPETENCIES: Uses Technical and Functional Experience: Possesses up to date knowledge of the profession and industry; is regarded as an expert in the technical/functional area; accesses and uses other expert resources when appropriate. Demonstrates Adaptability: Handles day to day work challenges confidently; is willing and able to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change; shows resilience in the face of constraints, frustrations, or adversity; demonstrates flexibility. Uses Sound Judgment: Makes timely, cost effective and sound decisions; makes decisions under conditions of uncertainty. Commits to Quality: Emphasizes the need to deliver quality services; defines standards for quality and evaluated products, processes, and service against those standards; manages quality; improves efficiencies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical demands of this job typically require full range of body motion including manual finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination and the ability to read and note appropriate measurements. Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills. I.V. certification preferred. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
