The University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine is committed to expanding and enhancing efforts to recruit and retain faculty that contribute to a diverse and accessible learning and research environment. As part of this commitment, we plan to use the College of Medicine Map to Impact through a Transdisciplinary Strategy (COMMITS) Hiring Initiative to recruit faculty at any rank, thereby strengthening the research and academic environment by expanding perspectives and experiences within the College of Medicine. Pursuant to the College’s established hiring processes, faculty recruited under this initiative will receive tenure-track appointments in departments relevant to their research focus. The college is home to 25 departments, 20 centers, and 21 research alliances. Signature areas of research include neuroscience, cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity, infection and immunity, and drug addiction and substance use. These areas among the broader research portfolio make for a vibrant, dynamic, and collaborative academic and research environment where all members will excel.

The UK College of Medicine is contiguous with the Colleges of Dentistry, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Nursing; and connected to the UK HealthCare enterprise, which includes four hospitals, more than 80 specialized clinics, and more than 140 outreach programs. In addition to the health-related colleges, the College of Medicine is adjacent to the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment. The proximity of these various colleges allows for close collaboration and a trans-disciplinary approach to science and research. College of Medicine academic units and researchers are committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and dialogue among faculty with a range of interests and innovative methodological approaches. As the leading medical/ biomedical institution within the Commonwealth, the College of Medicine and UK HealthCare provide a strong infrastructure for translational research with well-established and unique patient populations.

Responsibilities of the position include pursuing an active research program in the candidate's area of specialization, teaching, and contributing to the service mission of the home department. A competitive salary and start-up package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The College of Medicine seeks qualified applicants who value its missions and share its commitment to creating an environment where diversity is valued, inclusion is imperative, and belonging is foundational. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we strive to foster a community where individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and perspectives can feel secure and welcome. UK is increasingly a top choice for students, faculty, and staff to pursue their passions and professional goals. In the last two years, Forbes has named the UK among the best employers for diversity, and INSIGHT Into Diversity has recognized us as a Diversity Champion for six years. UK is ranked among the top 30 campuses in the nation for LGBTQ+ inclusion and safety. UK has been judged a “Great College to Work for" three years in a row, and the UK is among only 22 universities on Forbes' list of "America's Best Employers." UK is ranked among the top 10 percent of public institutions for research expenditures — a tangible symbol of our breadth and depth as a university focused on the discovery that changes lives and communities.

Interested applicants should apply through the University of Kentucky job posting: https://ukjobs.uky.edu/postings/442362 Questions and inquiries can be directed to search committee co-chairs, Drs. Kevin Pearson and Warren Alilain (kevin.pearson@uky.edu or warren.alilain@uky.edu). Applicants should submit the following documents limited to 1 page each: 1) a cover letter; 2) a current CV (no page limit); 3) a research statement outlining the short and long-term goals of your independent research program; 4) a teaching statement; and 5) a diversity statement that may include a description of experiences that influenced your outlook on diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia and ongoing or future research or other efforts to advance our understanding in these critical areas, as well as how the applicant will address their potential approaches to mentor and educate students and trainees who will interact with and treat diverse populations in the future. Letters of reference will be sought for competitive applications.

All applications will be handled securely, sensitively, and confidentially. The positions will be open until filled; however, the review of applications will begin on February 10, 2023 , so please submit by this date to ensure full consideration. We anticipate the announcement will close to new applications by June 2023, and applications will be evaluated as they are received.

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we strongly encourage veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, and all minorities to consider our employment opportunities.
