This position is located within the Pharmacy Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID. This position provides support to Pharmacoeconomics via Prior Authorization Drug Reviews (PADRs) and to Clinical Pharmacy Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education:(1) Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Today the sole degree is Doctor of Pharmacy.)(2) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. The pharmacist must maintain current registration if this is a requirement for maintaining full, current, and unrestricted licensure. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). GS-13 Grade Qualifications: Experience. In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Pharmacists assigned to this position must demonstrate the following Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards for their program area. Ability to solve problems, coordinate and organize responsibilities to maximize outcomes in their program area or area of clinical expertise. Expert knowledge of a specialized area of clinical pharmacy practice or specialty area of pharmacy. Advanced skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters. Preferred Experience: PGY1/PGY2 residency and/or 1-2 years of PADR adjudication experience Physical Requirements: There may be some walking, standing, bending, sitting, and carrying of light items. Understands, reviews, and applies criteria for use for each requested drug as appropriate. Reviews, analyzes, and applies the available published medical literature as it pertains to PADRs and their adjudication. Interfaces and communicates with providers, pharmacists, and other staff, as needed, providing input and feedback before, during, and after the adjudication process for requested drugs. Coordinates with Outpatient Pharmacists when reviewing, commenting on, and adjudicating CCN PADRs (entered by Outpatient Pharmacists). Serves as a reference to clinical pharmacists and providers in answering questions about the formulary status and requirements for obtaining non-formulary or restricted drugs. Actively participates in formulary, restricted, and non-formulary usage discussions to promote evidence-based, cost-effective drug therapy. Promotes compliance with the hospital formulary and VHA drug utilization guidelines throughout the Medical Center. PADRs specific to Inpatient, CLC, Discharge, or Mental Health will generally be reviewed and adjudicated by pharmacists in those specific areas but may also be completed by the PADR Pharmacist if needed. Performs other duties required by the Pharmacoeconomics Program Manager. Provides informal and formal instruction to medical center health providers on therapeutic drug questions as needed.
