The community you’ll be caring for: AdventHealth West Florida Division  

The role you’ll contribute:

The Director Medical Coding, under the general direction of the Vice President of Revenue Cycle is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of the division coding department for all eleven hospitals in the West Florida Division.  The Director Medical Coding is a member of the Revenue Cycle Team and will work closely with other team members; Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, Patient Access, Health Information Management, Utilization Management and Case Management in order to manage and resolve the accounts discharged but not final billed.  Responsible for the reporting of coding accuracy, productivity, and education of the coding team.  Works with facility ancillary departments to ensure charges are appropriate according to NCCI edits.  Responsible for reviewing and appealing post payment audits from Medicare and other payers according to payer contracts. Works closely with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) staff to strategize and assist with ways to improve physician documentation to ensure optimal reimbursement and the accurate and legal assignment of MS-DRGs.  Oversight of the facilities’ five-star mortality process, working in collaboration with CDI and Quality mortality reviewers.    Participates on the Hospital Acquired Condition committees and review process to provide coding instruction to the committee participants.  Schedules and responds to outside payor DRG/APC audits as well as RAC reviews.  Participates in concurrent DRG and APC audits in order to report coding accuracy to the Corporate Office.  Responsible for providing ongoing training and in-service programs to support coding compliance. Participates in facility revenue cycle meetings and assists the individual CFOs at each site with coding related projects or requests.  Assists with the testing, accuracy, trouble shooting and security of coding systems, interfaces, and reporting tools for systems used to report coding and abstracting data. Adheres to the AdventHealth policies and procedures while ensuring the adherence to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.  Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administrative staff and functions, and medical staff information with no infractions. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.  

The value you’ll bring to the team:

• Manages, develops and coaches the coding managers and auditors, motivating and supporting others in overcoming barriers to understanding.
• Direct oversight of 70 + FTEs
• Manages facility and individual scorecard data.  Conducting weekly one on one meetings with the managers to review and discuss results. 
• Monitors weekly productivity and responsible for running case mix index reports monthly.
• Manages the DRG/APC post payment audits.
• Drives operational efficiency and sustains excellence in coding workflow with accountability for meeting and exceeding established goals.  Maintains appropriate scheduling to ensure appropriate workflow and limitation of the use of overtime and utilizing contract help when appropriate.  Monitors individual and overall productivity and accuracy, working to remove barriers and coaching team members on efficiency.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Five years coding management experience, with broad knowledge of Medicare reimbursement systems, data abstraction and encoder usage.
• Formal education in anatomy and physiology and medical terminology.
• RHIA, RHIT or CCS certification or credential
