Duke University Hospital

Duke University Hospital has 1,048 licensed inpatient beds and offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center; a major surgery suite containing 65 operating rooms; an endo-surgery center; a separate hospital outpatient surgical department with nine operating rooms and an extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology area. For 2021-2022, U.S. News and World Report ranked Duke University Hospital nationally in 11 adult specialties: cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology & GI surgery, gynecology, neurology & neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology & lung surgery, and urology. Duke University Hospital is also ranked first in North Carolina and first in the Raleigh-Durham area.

In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics and outpatient surgery centers.

General Description of the Job Class
As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, this coordinator is responsible for drug distribution and delivery. This coordinator has varied responsibilities, some of which are denoted below.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Management of all aspects of day to day drug distribution and delivery services including staff scheduling, inventory handling, safety monitoring and technology oversight to ensure timely and accurate delivery of medications to our patients.
  • Responsible for the supervision of team members which may consist of pharmacy technicians, and ensures appropriate training of staff in their job functions.
  • Works collaboratively with peers and other healthcare professionals to achieve division, departmental and institutional goals.
  • Coordinates division staff meetings, and ensures timely dissemination of information to staff through multiple avenues.
  • Ensures that division services and practices are in line with established policies and procedures, and assess compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g.-TJC, BOP, DEA, USP), and best practice recommendations (e.g.-ISMP).
  • Assists with Human Resources relevant matters, including, recruiting, promotion, retention and discipline.
  • Takes responsibility for personal and professional growth.
  • Represent and support the pharmacy department's commitment to excellence through active participation on intra- and interdepartmental committees and teams
  • Engages in educational activities such as precepting of students and residents

     

    Required Qualifications at this Level
    Education:

    • Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy and three years' experience as a pharmacist. MBA or MS in Health System Pharmacy preferred.

    Experience:

    • Management experience preferred. Health-system pharmacy administration residency or equivalent post-graduate training preferred.

    Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

    • Licensed as a Pharmacist by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

    Knowledge, Skills,mand Abilities:

    • Microsoft Office; Effective writing and communication; Data collection and analysis; personnel management experience.
