Job DescriptionProvides trauma-sensitive clinical assessments and intakes for Medicaid-eligible children, youth and adults seeking mental health services at Greater Lakes. Contributes to the success of our "open access" process, ensuring that individuals receive a behavioral health assessment at the time of request. Refers clients to the most appropriate resources, both internal and external to Greater Lakes. Some Assessors will provide on-going therapy services to clients as needed. Essential Functions/Competencies 1. Performs diagnostic and functional assessments of individuals seeking services.2.Completes clinical documentation in a timely, accurate manner.3. Manages all clinical and documentation functions in ways that meet department productivity goals.4. Uses effective psychotherapy skills to assure appropriate client-centered care. [NOTE: Assessors that carry a caseload of clients will have a caseload size that will flex to meet the needs of the program. Essential Functions 4 & 5 apply only to these staff.]5. Completes all clinical and administrative documentation in a timely, accurate manner (caseload specific).Secondary Functions· Participates in required meetings, agency-mandated trainings, committee work and special agency projects (in-service training, program development, etc.)Job ScopeThis position's complexity is moderate. Responsibilities are fairly well-defined with established procedures and criteria. Assessors must be able to exercise good clinical judgment in assessing a wide array of individuals as well as be able to determine the most appropriate course of treatment. The position has little direct budgetary accountability. Errors in work could result in inappropriate approval or denial of services.Communication / Customer ContactsMust communicate skillfully on a regular and timely basis with individuals seeking services and other professionals both internally and externally, in person and on the phone. Must abide by all confidentiality laws and pertinent codes of conduct. Knowledge & Skills Must be very familiar with the DSM -V and skilled in completing accurate diagnoses. Thorough knowledge of clinical pathology, and a broad range of psychosocial assessment and treatment approaches for individuals with a serious and persistent mental illness, and a wide range of client types/problems. Knowledge of impact of medical issues and co-occurring disorders on functioning is desirable. Must be familiar with community resources. Intermediate level computer and keyboarding skills are essential as concurrent documentation is required. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise way; demonstrated problem-solving, and ability to work harmoniously with peers and professionals in various disciplines and people in the community. Must abide by a code of ethics of the individual's professional discipline including rules of confidentiality and rights of privacy. Cultural sensitivity is a must.Education and/or ExperienceMaster's degree in a mental health related field and two years' relevant experience. Must be a recognized Mental Health Professional as defined in WAC 246-341-0200/RCW 71.05.020. Must be eligible for a Washington State Department of Health Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration or other licensed mental health credential. Previous experience working with a wide variety of social service systems.Job Conditions This position works primarily in the office, although on rare occasions could involve outreach. Most of the work in this position is performed through direct face-to-face contact with clients and their support systems, and requires effective speaking and listening ability at conversational levels. Must be able to drive to designated off-site assessment locations. Overtime is rarely required.
