Non-interventional, general cardiology position Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Board Eligible/Board Certification in Cardiology Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Echocardiography Board Certification in Nuclear Stress Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. ["Duties include but are not limited to: The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible non-invasive/clinical cardiologists. The candidates should be trained in all aspects of non-invasive/clinical cardiology. Non-invasive cardiology provides direct patient care through busy cardiology ward and cardiac critical care unit (CCU) service, inpatient consultation service, a robust non-invasive lab that performs state-of-the-art echocardiography (including strain and 3D imaging) and outpatient clinics. Expertise and experience in teaching is preferred. Physicians will engage in in-patient care, management of patients in cardiac critical care unit (CCU) and provide cardiology consultation services on an outpatient basis. Physicians will improve clinic access to veterans with cardiovascular disease by providing both direct care and supervision of\nadvanced practice providers. Strongly prefer a physician who will provide transthoracic, transesophageal, stress echocardiography and nuclear stress testing services in the cardiac non-invasive lab (interest in developing a cardiac MRI program would be a plus). Physician will teach trainees as part of the East Tennessee State University (ETUS) Cardiology Fellowship training program. In this role, the incumbents will provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards. The incumbents will provide consultative feedback and management on patients referred from other sections of the hospital and/or affiliated VA outpatient clinics, and perform administrative functions and other tasks\nas assigned by the Section Chief of Cardiology and/or the Chief of Medicine. The incumbents are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbents are expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, e-consults, medicationreconciliation, etc) and timely interpretation and closure of diagnostic reports, consults, and clinic encounters(i.e. EKGs, Echos, Stress testing, Holters, etc). In addition, the incumbents are expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with Hospitalists,\nPrimary Care Providers, nursing staff, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and other subspecialists and ancillary staff. The ideal candidates will help to ensure that the highest quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner. Incoming cardiologist will be expected to participate in equitable call coverage on a rotating basis with other\nfull-time cardiologists.
