The Academic Detailer Pharmacist is a field-based role that will independently engage community-based physicians and medical group administrators in an educational capacity with the goals of:

  • Driving adherence to evidence based medicine guidelines
  • Supporting medication adherence
  • Supporting prescribing of lower cost alternatives

As part of their daily responsibilities, this individual will work under the guidance and direction of their health plan partner, PBM partners and reporting leadership to successfully drive initiatives and engage providers.

The Academic Detailer Pharmacist serves as the primary liaison of their health plan partner and will be expected to proactively establish and manage prescriber relationships as an outward facing, dedicated resource. In addition to providing prescriber/group education, this individual will engage providers to strategically identify ways to lower plan and member spend, and will be expected to bring back recommendations from physician offices to support continuous quality improvement of the detailing program.  The Detailer will then be expected to collaborate with their health plan partner to continually improve ongoing utility of provider reports and education materials.

  • Review patient-specific opportunities to optimize and provide cost-effective, quality care
  • Develop and manage the client relationship with your health plan partner by employing effective communication, utilizing professional acumen, and incorporating drug expertise
  • Apply marketing/consultation techniques in promotion of national practice guidelines for clinical effectiveness and safety
  • Participate in the development of reports providing comparative data on prescribing practices
  • Participate in the development of outcome reports to track the success of interventions
  • Analyze data to track and trend program impact and identify areas of opportunity to improve the program
  • Function with high level of urgency in all business responses- internal and external
  • Receive from the healthplan or generate training and materials to disseminate to practices, including handouts, provider reports, and other desired collateral
  • Provide monthly progress updates during health plan partner or PBM hosted meetings
  • Provide periodic presentation of the year’s or quarter’s activities and outcomes
  • Assist with providing data and feedback to truly change provider behavior and achieve results
