Overview

Verifies, pre-registers and schedules patients with accuracy and efficiency. Verifies insurance and demographic information. Reviews and maintains patient accounts, secures financial arrangements on self-pay balances prior to and during patient appointments

Responsibilities/Job Description
  • Answers all incoming phone calls in a timely manner and directs to the appropriate team or individual
  • Schedules appointments for patients with specified clinican according to scheduling guidelines, patients' needs, and availability of clinician
  • Pre-registers and verifies insurance and demographic information with the patient according to established guidelines
  • Informs patients of insurance coverage and co-pays or self-pay policy and documents in patient account for front desk staff
  • Monitors patient balances on patient accounts and informs patients of outstanding balances to ensure appropriate financial arrangements
  • Researches and facilitates patients' questions and concerns according to established guidelines and procedures
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years experience required
  • Prior medical business office or insurance company experience required, preferably in a customer service position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of medical terminology course or equivalent experience and education preferred
  • Prior experience working with third party payer regulations preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance and third party payors preferred

Other Required Skills:

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection. Ability to interact effectively, listen actively and develop positive working relationships with diverse customers and staff honoring differentworld views
  • Office Skills: Knowledge and application of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; utilizes appropriate tools and staff resources along with sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations
