You Will Be Responsible For:

  • Assists the radiologist, cardiologist, or attending physician performing sterile procedures (i.e., prep and draping patient, scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, sheath pull during invasive procedures). Adheres to approve standards of sterile/aseptic technique utilizing equipment and supplies in a safe and prudent manner.
  • Performs medication reconciliation for all outpatients by reviewing home medications with patient prior to the administration of sedatives.
  • Monitors, recognizes and communicates the electrocardiographic and hemodynamic changes to the physician and appropriate staff members throughout the procedure and pre and post care.
  • Administers medications ordered by the Physician, monitoring and documenting in accordance with Nursing and Hospital policies.
  • May perform/assist with general noninvasive cardiology procedures; stress tests, EKG’s, tilt table exams, holter scanning, etc.
  • Responsible for taking call on a rotating basis, responding to hospital for emergent call back within 30 minutes.
  • Performs emergency procedures (i.e., ACLS protocol, defibrillation, etc.) as appropriate – under the direction supervision of a physician.
  • Collects, evaluates and assists in PI program, demonstrating progress towards benchmark.
  • May assist with Phase I cardiac education for inpatients referred to Cardiopulmonary Wellness Services as assigned.
  • May assist in Phase II and Phase III  Cardiopulmonary Wellness, including initial evaluation and concurrent sessions as assigned.
  •  Performs and documents accurate initial assessment per unit standard which may include: initial observation, obtaining and interpreting information in terms of the patient’s needs, safety, discharge planning, psych/social/cultural, family needs, multi-system physical assessment, patient/family level of knowledge and readiness to learn about disease process and care requirements. Reports appropriate information in a timely manner to responsible physician and/or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Observes and monitors patient lab work for trends and reports abnormal lab tests to the appropriate physician and obtains appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrates critical-thinking skills in the delivery of patient care including assessment, analyzing basic and advanced cardiac rhythms and medication delivery in an independent manner, providing safe and competent care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability in the preparation of patients for tests, procedures and surgeries ordered.
  • Plans for and maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for the patient
  • Assists with cleaning of rooms, restocking and updating supplies.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate, problem-solve and improvise common equipment malfunctions including the Angiojet, IABP, Femstop, IVUS, and AVOX.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and practice new techniques and equipment utilization by attending training sessions and familiarizing self with new procedure revisions as they occur.
  • Demonstrates and practices proper protection measures to insure radiation safety to self, fellow employees, visitors and physicians.
  • Always demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others by wearing protective equipment as required.
  • Accompanies patient to his/her room and / or discharge, and gives report to the receiving nurse.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of drugs commonly used in the Interventional Coronary and IR lab.
  • Admits, transfers and discharges patients in a professional and competent manner including preparation of documents and communication with internal and external providers.
  • Provides procedural sedation in a professional, competent and safe manner to all radiological and cardiac patients.
  • Accepts reassignment to a level of care deemed competent in a professional and cooperative manner.
  • Serves as a clinical preceptor and resource for less experienced Cardiovascular staff members.
  • Participates in the in-service education programs by:
    • Attending in-service education meetings
    • Participating in the orientation and continuous on the job training experience for Coronary Interventional and IR personnel.
    • Participates in departmental/Florida Hospital education programs
    • Evaluating own performance and striving to improve.
Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Graduate of a school of Nursing
  • A minimum of two years hospital experience in preferably Critical Care or Emergency Department with a minimum of one year experience/training in a Level II Cardiac Cath Lab (Specifically PCI) is required for a total of more than three years of experience OR two years  experience in a Level II Cardiac Cath Lab (Specifically PCI). 
  • Must have experience in hemodynamic monitoring to include pressure and waveform recognition, cardiac arrhythmia recognition and cardiac pharmacology.

 

 

Job Summary:

The Cardiovasular Interventional Lab Registered Nurse has been specially trained in cardiac and radiological procedures and techniques, including emergent coronary interventions and is a key member of the cardiac/radiological team. Uses the nursing skills of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in their patient care delivery. Primary functions include the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost effective nursing care. May also work in other areas of the Hospital including Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and Wellness Center where monitoring patient care and providing patient education is essential. Adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all the rules and regulations of local, state and federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.
