Primary Function:

Performs the intermediate analysis for data and/or voice network infrastructure projects (implementations and installs), maintains, and monitors data and/or voice network hardware and software, and provides technical support to Information Services personnel and to the corporate community.

This role will be part of a larger Network Team with varied specialties. In this role the main responsibilities will be within the routing and switching platforms. Experience with routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, RIP are expected. Thorough understanding of LAN/WAN protocols and the OSI model are expected. Experience with IP network concepts such as VLANs, DNS, DHCP, IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, spanning tree is required. Experience with NAC or SPB would be highly desirable.

This position requires 24x7 (1 week at a time) on call rotation with the rest of the team for an average of 6-7 on call rotations throughout the year.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Generates intermediate networking/telecommunications ideas which increase system performance and system availability.

  • Identifies and implements intermediate ideas, techniques, interfaces, software and processes in order to continually build and engineer additional opportunities of network/telecommunications infrastructure.

  • Identifies and pursues opportunities for continuing professional development to increase understanding of assigned areas, computer technology and other relative areas. Investigates and studies new and developing technologies in order to determine their potential value and applicability within the infrastructure.

  • Installs and maintains intermediate systems software which is used for the automated management of computer system operations, resources and processes.

  • Investigates and studies intermediate new and developing technologies in order to determine their potential value and applicability within the infrastructure.

  • Provides in depth level troubleshooting and problem determination. Uses both breadth and depth of technical knowledge to assist other department personnel in the identification and resolution of particularly difficult technical problems.

  • Assists IS managers in conducting special studies intended to improve the performance of the department and customers.

  • Performs problem determination for the data and/or voice network.

  • Develops the appropriate work plans for the implementation of new data and/or voice communication hardware and software; insures that new software releases and updates are thoroughly tested before implementation, and keeps accurate system documentation.

  • Monitors total data and/or voice network performance and capacities (hardware and software) and makes changes to optimize the network's performance.

  • Monitors vendor software/firmware releases and tests/implements upgrades for software/equipment.

  • Participates on Information Services teams to advise and review on the appropriate solutions to the health care/business problems. Performs the data and/or voice network equipment analysis for the installation and implementation for projects.

  • Maintains good communications at all times, provides technical assistance, support, education, training, manuals and standards for Information Services staff . Acts as a mentor to the Associate Network Analyst.

  • Is self-motivated to learn and apply the inner workings of the more complex data and/or voice network equipment, applications and tools.

  • Occasionally documents device changes on blueprints and updates the network databases as required for projects.

  • Identifies a need for and defines new standards or procedures as required.

  • Ensures effective first level support through effective CSC turnover documentation.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree or the minimal equivalent experience of four years in the Associate Network Systems Analysts or similar position.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

  • Network certifications highly desirable.

  • Experience with Extreme or Avaya Networking equipment highly desirable.
