Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse supervises and participates in the activities of the nursing department to assure deliverance of quality care, promotion of comfort, maintenance of functional abilities and respect for patient's/resident's dignity.

FLSA:

NON-EXEMPT

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and assists in the overall care provided during each shift. Assess and provides patient/resident care within established policies, procedures and professional standards, with consideration for the patient's/resident's choices, privacy, and independence. This includes making regular rounds observing patient's/resident's nursing care, answering call lights for assistance, communicating with co-workers and recording pertinent information into the patient's/resident's chart.

Plans and administers the nursing care to ensure quality and continuity of services.

Provides accurate assessments of patient's/resident's conditions to assure the development of appropriate plans of care.

Completes patient/resident records and forms in a timely manner to provide a means for communication in order to promote quality and continuity of care.

Performs or assists patients/residents in performing medical care activities to assure total patient/resident care.

Prepares, administers and records routine and emergency medication and treatment according to the physician's orders and established procedures to promote the highest possible level of comfort and physical well-being. Maintains accurate and legible records of medication and treatment.

Makes provisions for patients/residents to see their physicians and notifies family members/responsible parties, physicians, Director of Nursing and other appropriate individuals when there are changes in the patient/resident condition to allow for communication and decision making in an ongoing plan of care. Works in cooperation with the Social Service designee and others in carrying out these responsibilities.

Performs safety and infection control procedures to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patients/residents and staff. This includes understanding and following Teton Medical Center's procedures relating to wandering patients/residents, fire, disaster, evacuation, universal precautions and infection control procedures.

Promotes and maintains a positive, compassionate and professional atmosphere within the work place.

All job functions and communications are carried out in a cooperative and compassionate manner, encouraging a team spirit in and among departments.

Dresses in accordance with facility policy. Maintains a high degree of professionalism, setting a positive example, cooperation and team spirit for co-workers at all times.

Regards all information relating to patients/residents as strictly confidential according to facility policies. Adheres to HIPAA, Montana code, and facility policies with regards to confidentiality.

Demonstrates flexibility in order to accommodate staffing needs; understanding that at times schedule changes are unavoidable and the may be required to work hours in addition to or varied from original schedule.

Assists with pharmacy duties.

Attends a minimum of eighty (80) percent of mandatory inservices without excused absence.

Attends a minimum of eighty (80) percent of scheduled staff meetings without excused absence.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.

Professional Requirements:

Adheres to dress code.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.

Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.

Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.

Education/Experience Requirements:

Current RN licensure in the State of Montana

Ability to effectively communicate, problem solve and plan and direct the works of others.

Ability to demonstrate technical and clinical competency.

Ability to follow policies and procedures.

Ability to perform proper body mechanics while performing treatments, turning and transferring patients/residents.

Ability to visually and auditorily observe the daily living needs of the patients/residents in order to provide quality care.

Ability to accurately and legibly complete forms and records.
