GENERAL DUTIES:
The Director, Nursing- Acute Rehab is fully responsible for the total operation of the inpatient rehabilitation program and acute rehab unit. Included in responsibilities is the direction and coordination of the financial management, operational control, referral development activities and the clinical and quality performance of the program. This position serves as the Program Director for the Inpatient Rehab Facility, and it is incumbent upon the Program Director to work successfully with administration and department heads to achieve the performance goals of the program. This program provides services 7 days a week and works closely with other departments/disciplines to accomplish patient goals. Specialty services to include wound care, orthopedics and neuro-rehab. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
� Makes certain the program is staffed, supervised and is continually developed so patient care is of the utmost quality
� Leads recruitment efforts
� Provides daily supervision of operational tasks
� Commits to providing resources and education for personnel to stay current in the field in order to demonstrate program strategies and interventions that are based on current research, peer-reviewed scientific and health-related publication, clinical practice guidelines and expert professional consensus
� Attends and participates in continuing education
� Follow regulatory guidelines and standards to have minimal risk of regulatory problems
� Keeps up to date with regulations pertinent to the successful management of the inpatient rehab program
� Teaches and trains rehab staff on applicable changes in regulations that affect the day-to-day operation of the rehabilitation program
� Advises Administration on any pertinent changes in the regulations that may affect the performance goals of the rehabilitation program
� Meets CARF standards at all times
� Teaches and trains staff members on changes in CARF standards
� Maintains applicable licenses or certifications
� A strategic plan is developed and updated annually. The strategic plan will address:
� Program growth
� Patient attraction strategies
� Program development
� Community and referral source education
� Clinical outcomes
� Compliance
� Business goals
� Employee engagement
� Patient attraction strategies are designed, implemented and evaluated for efficacy
� Trains and mentors staff members in the carrying out of the patient attraction strategies and best practice standards
� Maintains appropriate statistics that measure the success of the strategic plan
� Maintains successful relationships with community contacts, referral sources, insurance case managers, hospital case managers and medical staff members as part of the implementation and operationalizing the patient attraction strategies and associated best practice standards
� Modifies the plan as needed to achieve goals
� Seeks out support from hospital administration when needed as a means to achieve the plan�s goals
� Initiates and maintains a customer satisfaction program and reports results to hospital administration
� Manages the financial health of the rehab program
� Provides input to administration on the development of a rehab budget
� Maintains budget(s) on a month-to-month basis
� Provides variance reports to administration as needed
� Collects and analyzes data to advise administration on areas of financial and operational concern
� Directs clinical staff in the proper documentation standards that serve to meet regulatory standards and keep risk of retrospective denial low
� Daily Management of the rehab program
� Assures that referrals are assessed in a timely manner to keep referral source satisfaction high
� Oversees the admissions process to assure that patient needs are of utmost concern and that referral sources are satisfied with the admissions process
� Works in conjunction with the rehab Medical Director in a manner that serves to positively achieve stated goals
� Works with hospital departments and provides satisfactory communication so the goods and services needed by the rehab program are available on a timely basis.
� Attends Department Head meetings and other relevant meetings to support the efficient management of the rehab program
� Follows CMS guidelines on keeping the rehab program as a distinct part unit
� Manages and oversees the completion of the IRF-PAI process for all patients
� Assures the maintenance of the CMS regulations to keep the program exempt from IPPS
� Understands and assures that staff members are properly attuned to the regulations governing the documentation of medical necessity
� Collects and analyzes data on the operational management of the program and reports the results of the data analysis as a means for others to assess the performance of the program
� Data should at minimum contain (both static and trended): Case mix, patient volume (admits and discharges), reasons for denial, ALOS, payer mix, discharge destination, functional improvement, staff development, referral development activity, and general patient demographics
� Promotes a team concept as a mode of program operation
� Holds team meetings regularly � for the entire team
� Uses team concept as a mode of team problem solving
� Leads and promotes Clinical Quality
� Develops quality measures and sets standards based on national performance norms, regulatory requirements or hospital standards
� Data is collected, managed and reported and follows hospital standards for the form and format of reporting clinical quality
� Meets CARF and TJC regulatory standards
� Teaches and adheres to FIM measurement standards and CMS quality measures
� Participates in hospital safety activities
� Leads and promotes customer satisfaction
� Identifies problems or any dissatisfaction experienced by any customer and works to resolve them to a high degree of stakeholder satisfaction
� Responds promptly to all customer concerns
� Effectively turns negative situations into supportive relationships by use of concern, poise, understanding, honesty, and tact
� Exhibits behavioral skills that promote a positive customer relations environment
� Measures customer satisfaction for reporting purposes

Qualifications:


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
� Current CA RN license
� Bachelor�s degree in Nursing
� Current BLS certification
� Five (5) years� experience in Acute Rehab (inpatient and/or outpatient) setting
� Three (3) years management experience in Acute Rehab (inpatient and/or outpatient)
� Strong computer skills in Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
� Demonstrated competence as a leader.

Preferred:
� Master�s degree in Nursing
