The Department of Counselling Services is looking to fill vacancies within small teams of experienced therapists who deliver evidence based, high quality community based and residential treatment services in Grand Cayman.

Therapist (Community Based) -The Counselling Centre

Principle Accountabilities

  • Provide evidence based, trauma informed assessments, to all individuals who present for services.
  • Provide on call crisis management services to high risk client situations.
  • Conduct individual sessions with clients, which can include sessions with family members and significant others to assist clients to establish and accomplish their treatment goals.
  • Develop, in conjunction with clients, individualised treatment plans and evaluate on an ongoing basis progress of client toward achieving stated goals.
  • Facilitate and provide trauma informed and evidence based couple, family therapeutic treatment services.
  • Facilitate specialised treatment groups.
  • Provide clinical monitoring and direction to Counsellors to assist in the development of their skills and experience.
  • Maintain confidential and up to date client records on all counselling matters.
  • Complete relevant client file documentation and preparing reports to assist with monitoring the progress of clients.

Therapist (Residential) - Caribbean Haven Residential Centre (CHRC)

CHRC is a residential treatment programme which serves adult males and females with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.  CHRC provides non-medical withdrawal management, primary treatment and re-entry support services throughout the year (excluding exceptional circumstances) and provide 24-hour care to residents.  The Post Holder will act as the primary therapist for their assigned clients, and offer evidenced based individualised treatment and group therapeutic services.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Providing Evidence-based Therapeutic Group Sessions and facilitating psycho-educational groups to increase client awareness and teach new skills;
  • Conducting individual sessions with clients, which can include sessions with family members and significant others to assist clients to establish and accomplish their treatment goals;
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments on clients entering the residential treatment programmes as well as persons incarcerated at HM Prisons who are referred by the courts and the Conditional Release Board to determine suitability and to identify treatment needs.
  • Developing, in collaboration with clients, individualised treatment plans within 7 days of admission to the residential programme, evaluating progress toward identified goals weekly and updating the plan every 30 days to include newly identified goals as needed
  • Maintaining confidential and up to date client records on all counselling matters.
  • Completing relevant client file documentation and preparing reports to assist with monitoring the progress of clients.

Candidates should:

  • Possess the minimum of a Master’s degree in a Social Science: Counselling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or the equivalent discipline.
  • Provide evidence of (or eligibility for) licensure, certification or registration with regulatory body with specification to practice as a psychotherapist within the current jurisdiction of practice or training

  • 3-5 years of experience working as a specialized therapist with individuals, couples, groups, and families.
  • Experience working with mandated clients is considered an asset.
  • Evidence of integrative counselling skills and knowledge of trauma informed care.
  • Experience working with co-occurring disorders is considered an asset.
  • Cross cultural experience would be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Windows & Microsoft Office.

Therapist(Residential)

  • Have 5 – 7 years of clinical experience working as a specialized therapist with individuals, and groups in a therapeutic residential setting.
  • Prior experience working with mandated clients co-occurring disorders is required.
  • Evidence of integrative counselling skills and knowledge of dual diagnosis treatment.
  • Cross cultural experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills are required including the ability to develop proper case documentation.
  • Proficiency in computer applications software including Windows & Microsoft Office
  • CPR and Basic First Aid are required.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.

The Department is comprised of four distinct agencies. • The Counselling Centre (TCC) provides community-based counselling services to residents of Grand Cayman who may require assistance with a variety of life challenges including drug and alcohol issues, family and relationship difficulties, a history of trauma, mental health or issues related to personal growth and development. • These services are provided to residents of the Sister Islands through Brac Haven – Sister Islands Counselling Centre; • Caribbean Haven Residential Centre located in Breakers, Grand Cayman offers intensive substance abuse treatment to all residents in the Cayman Islands that is tailored to the needs of adult male and female clients. • The Family Resource Centre offers parenting skills programmes, parent coaching by certified coaches, psycho-educational workshops, crisis intervention and advocacy to victims of family violence, and spearheads public awareness campaigns aimed to strengthen families and individuals and provide the foundation for a healthy society.
