Assist Optometrists at Christiana Care Optometry with both clinical and clerical support with the goal of excellent patient experiences
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates patient flow within the office
Performs pre-exam testing including history, medication reconciliation, lensometry, keratometry, visual acuity and automated visual fields.
Administers eye drops, inserts and removes contact lenses while using proper technique
Uses Electronic Medical Record to document data
Teaches patients contact lens insertion and removal
Orders supplies and keeps rooms properly stocked, clean and ready for patient care
Orders specialty contact lenses with lab consults
Maintains contact lens fitting lens inventory in coordination with sales representatives
Performs clerical task including patient registration, scheduling, insurance verification and answers telephones
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to the appropriate personnel, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities, hazards or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients or visitors.
Performs other related duties as required
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
The Optometry Assistant will have daily contact with patients, staff, other medical providers, medical assistants and receptionists during the process of providing excellent patient care.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Computer and telephone experience
Two years of experience in an optometry, ophthalmology practice
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Posses good communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to perform multiple tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
