ResponsibilitiesProvide professional orthoptic services in the Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Division. This will include, in children of all ages and adults, evaluation of vision, including detection and monitoring of amblyopia; evaluation and non-surgical treatment of ocular motility and strabismus by optical means and exercises; evaluation and treatment of disorders of binocular sensory function, including stereopsis. The Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Division provides outpatient services at the Stein Eye Institute of the Department of Ophthalmology on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and affiliated facilities. The Division is equipped with equipment for synoptophore testing, Hess screen testing, eye movement recording, and fundus imaging (OCT, infrared, and autofluorescence), and conducts magnetic resonance imaging for evaluation of complex strabismus. The Stein Eye Institute has six outpatient ophthalmic operating rooms, and its full-time faculty, fellows, and residents regularly perform strabismus surgeries in adults and children of all ages.
QualificationsCompletion of an orthoptic training program.
Possession of certification by the American Association of Certified Orthoptists, or equivalent national certification if trained internationally.
Experience in the measurement of strabismus in children and adults
Experience in working with visual problems of young children
Experience in treatment of amblyopia
Verbal communication skills to clearly convey information to patients, students, faculty & staff
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the assigned tasks and responsibilities
