The position is a manager position with accountability for ensuring that Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission, and all regulatory standards from the Department of Public Health are strictly adhered to. This position assures that correct procedures are followed pertaining to decontamination, sterilization, record keeping of sterilization, acquisition, storage, distribution, and tracking of all sterile equipment. Furthermore, this position is responsible for maintaining best practices for ordering supplies for the operating room, for effective and efficient use of resources at Orange Coast Medical Center. Since this position includes ordering of supplies utilizing lean principles it has a dotted line to the Materials Director. The incumbent of this position also works closely with the contracting department and is a member of the Operating Room Standardization and Implementation Team (ORSIT). Finally, this position reports directly to the Director, of Perioperative Services.
Two years of health care experience in sterile processing is required. Previous leadership experience preferred. Expertise with computer systems and instrument processing / patient care cart delivery system. Knowledge of sterility standards, AAMI and AORN.
BLS by the American Heart Association is required. International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management IAHCSMM or another equal sterilization certification is required.
